REFLECTION ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTION OF ICT IN THE SOCIETY
ICT refers to the devices used to communicate between computers. Information communication technology (ICT) has greatly impacted and enhanced global socialization and interactions. In fact information technology has taken over nearly every aspect of our daily lives from education, business, government, medicine, banking and finance and transportation. Today, mobile phones, desktop computers, hand held devices, emails and the use of Internet has become a central part of our culture and society.
These technologies play a vital role in our day to day operations. ICT has made global social and cultural interaction very easy. We now live in an interdependent global society, where people can interact and communicate swiftly and efficiently. News and information can now be transmitted in minutes. Individuals can easily stay in contact with members of their families who reside in other countries or make new friends across the world. With it, everything became faster and more accessible. But everything has its own limitations. ICT’s limitation happens when it is being used to intentionally hurt other people’s feeling and emotion. It has its own boundaries that should be obeyed and respected by the netizens all over the world. Without having a disciplined usage of ICT, it will bring more harm than good. ICT is powerful enough to make or break a thing. It can be our stepping stone, a ladder towards success, a helping hand, a gift, a blessing. But it can also be a stumbling block, a setback, a hindrance, a destroyer, a reason to be afraid of living. Nevertheless, ICT was first and foremost created to help. Let’s preserve its purpose even in this modern age.
As we go through the topics we cope up in regarding with ICT, we’ve learn so much and it really helps a lot as we leisurely reflecting it to ourself. The different platforms and ICT tools (advantages and disadvantages), on how the ICT change the people the way they socialize and how they communicate to the people whose near and far away from them. The role of ICT in the recent history, and even in the lives of every people and in promoting the advocacy and developmental communication, ICT became a medium to connect everyone and even during calamities, it helps families, social workers and the government in discerning information. We can really assure that ICT has a great impact to every individual’s and to the society’s change.
ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE OF ICT
A good advantage of ICT is its way of giving us an advance perspective of viewing life. ICT is futuristic. It offers us what we need even for the future purposes. It can give us a good education that we need to have a better life. Through ICT, learning makes easier. Resources are everywhere around the web. No need to go in huge libraries and bring thick, old books. Just download a PDF version of your needed lesson and you are ready to go. It brings out optimism. Through ICT, they innovate and create technologies that help us to live longer. If we are going to use ICT in the good and right way, it will make our life healthier. The machines were created to add more meaning in our life. These technologies are our hope to see another day. These are the keepers of our memories. ICT gives hope for a better tomorrow. ICT is where our future depends.
Ict has made a very vital impact on society. It has changed the way of life. The use of computer technology has affected every field of life. People are using computers to perform different tasks quickly and easily. The use of computers makes different task easier. It also saves time and effort and reduces the overall cost to complete a particular task. Many organizations are using computers for keeping the records of their customers. Banks are using computers for maintaining accounts and managing financial transactions. The banks are also providing the facility of online banking. The customers can check their account balance from using the internet. They can also make financial transaction online. The transactions are handled easily and quickly with computerized systems. People are using computers for paying their bills, managing their home budgets or simply having some break and watching a movie, listening to songs or playing computer games. Online services like Skype or social media websites are used for communication and information sharing purposes. Computer can be used as a great educational tool. Students can have access to all sort of information on the internet. Some great websites like Wikipedia, Khan’s Academy, Code Academy, Byte-Notes provides free resources for students & professionals. Moreover, the computer is being used in every field of life such as medical, business, industry, airline and weather forecasting.
On the other hand, ICT have disadvantages too. ICT can make us fear life. It makes us not afraid of dying, but instead, we became afraid of living. ICT, especially Social Media, is sometimes a tool to destroy someone. Its intention is to bring fun and enjoyment, but because of abusive use, it became the source of our depression. It is suppose to bring color, but sometimes, it dulls our day. In social media, you can hurt someone anonymously. It can be a way to pull people down, to put someone in shame, to embarrass, to bully. This is why the term cyber-bullying was created. People started to bully other people in the world wide web. People in the internet are more careless and limitless. They became more involve in spreading bad vibes, rather than sharing motivations. ICT’s intention is to help, but netizens are doing it in a wrong way. Also, ICT makes people lazy because of overdependent on technology.
